THE PROCESS OF INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT
The original intent of this topic was far more limited and focused. But after a lot of thought and the realization that this has major importance across the spectrum of topics in this website I decided to do a more comprehensive post connecting it to all of the related applicable topic areas. After fully addressing the process I will do a second pass with the original focused personal analysis.
THE PHYSICAL, SOCIAL, INTELLECTUAL, TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT AND MATURATION PROCESS IS GENERALLY UNIVERSAL
The same general process traverses all bodies from an individual baby to families, clans, and all the way up to countries and all forms of ethic groups.
So let’s begin simple with a new born baby. The baby was recently born and has no tangible knowledge, communications, spatial awareness, mobility, physical skills and capability or anything else. It is totally dependent on the parent or caring guardian for its survival and all forms of required care, nurturing, and all else. The only thing the baby can do by itself is instinctively suck and saturate and overwhelm diapers. Gradually the baby will be nurtured and taught the most basic skills of turning over, sitting up, making meaningless noises, and starting to build a close relationship with its caregivers. This process will continue slowly expanding in scope to movement, mobility, body control, communications, awareness, actions and reactions, and all forms of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development. The more time that passes will also result in acquisition of various physical and mental skills that will lead to survival skills on a personal and societal level
A DYNAMIC WITHIN A DYNAMIC
Now that we have a reasonable grasp of development in the context a baby we must stop and realize that in the course of history the same process was happening to families, clans, governments, ethnic groups, and society as a whole. But we also have an inherent problem with understanding our own motion in this dynamic. To understand the issue I would ask each of you exactly how fast your are traveling at this moment., And most if not all of your would respond “I am not moving”. But in actuality you are moving and your speed is approximately 1000 miles per hour. Huh? You are on the earth which is spinning around 25,000 mile, the circumference of the earth at the equator, in one day or 24 hours. So rough math gives us something a little over 1000 miles per hour. However, you are spinning at exactly the same speed as almost all your reference points around and there is essentially no differential between other people, structures, and so forth an you. So you do no see or feel the effects of you motion. This is also true of people moving through time. They do not sense their motion and motion is almost always “white noise” which is ignored by everyone. This is also true when you read a Bible or history and subliminally you feel like the people in the Bible or history are at the same location in evolution you are and they should know that their actions and behaviors are wrong and unacceptable while they are thousands of year behind you in your rear view mirror. You don’t sense this and it does not play a role in your comprehension of their existence in their time frame.
THE INVISIBLE ELEPHANT TRAP IN THE ROOM
Driven by an insatiable drive to go back to our roots in history, we passionately read about our ancient ancestors in the Biblical narrative and fail to comprehend many of the objectionable actions and behaviors documented in the stories. And we totally miss the obvious. We are a product, an accumulation of thousands of years of education, experience, social, historical, legal, and cultural knowledge. We are on the bleeding edge of the future looking back and judging the ancient past where the people did not have internet, mobile phones, online shopping from the most advanced international commercial systems using the most advanced communications, transportation, information systems, scientific, technological, manufacturing, marketing, political, and so forth systems. The people we read about were limited in mobility as we have reached outer space and peer far beyond into other galaxies. The people back then were extremely limited in information, capabilities, and essentially were fully focused on the necessities of basic survival and this occupied the vast majority of their time. Not only that but they had to produce their food, seek high places for their safety from enemy armies and other threats while having to go down from the height to search for water and other resources. They had to produce their own clothing, tools of all kinds, and everything else. The demands of survival were overwhelming and people had to band together in large families, communities, and so forth to share the burdens of survival. And all of this was happening in an information vacuum while today we are in information overload.
THE FIRST RULE ON VISITING THE BIBLE AND HISTORY
When you get your passport and embark on your journey into the past you must first leave your baggage at the door and then board your Biblical historical time machine.
NEXT YOU MUST IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE TRAVELOGUE OF THE TRIP
Here you must familiarize yourself with survival requirements, technology of the times, social, legal, and governmental norms. In short you must get into their shoes – the shoes of the time and not try to force your Nikes onto Abraham, Joseph’s, and Moses’ bibical feet. They just won’t fit no matter how hard you push.
Try to grasp the fact that until they achieved some level of writing system and proficiency the shelf life of communications and information was a microsecond unless the information was worthy of becoming part of the oral legacy and even then information had limited audience, was corrupted with each echo and repetition, and ultimately overloaded the cumulative oral bandwidth and long term retention capacity.
CONCURRENT BIRTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF MAN AND MANKIND
Whether one believes in G-d and the Bible and the Great Flood or not we are thrust back thousands of years to the most primitive times and conditions. Amazon was still a rain forest and Jeff Bezos had not yet transformed it to the greatest shopping experience in the universe. And back then we really only had one verse at most. The information vacuum had nothing to do with Hoover. Our sheep were corralled behind primitive gates and had no connection to Bill Gates. We had endless problems to overcome while Google, YouTube, 411, and 911 were nowhere to be found. The situation was a serious headache and Bayer was AWOL.
We had no role models, social order with support system, health service, established barter or commerce system, police or other protection, etc. We were at the earliest stages with few people and a massive task of building everything. Our communications skills were minimal and without a writing system we had no ability to document and build our knowledge base. The little constantly hungry and pooping Clingons had little to contribute and demanded more attention and time than we could afford with all of the survival requirements eating up all our time, energy, and resources while other competing people were trying to steal the little we had. Efforts in culture, art, music, etc. were totally unthinkable. Life was a constant struggle finding food, making protective clothing, finding any form of shelter and trying to manufacture vessels to carry water from the low and very dangerous places. Dynamic threats such as famine, crop failures, weather issues, etc. forces us to frequently move from place to place and this journey was difficult with the issues of carry what little we owned, find food and water on the way with no fast food chains, looking for safe and comfortable lodging and rest stops with no room service and breakfast in bed. How horrible. And when people in the future think of us with grand expectations of our cultural standards, high ethics, technological prowess, and so forth they are totally detached from the reality and context that we live in.
