LIFE LESSONS: MOTHER TEACHES DAUGHTER ABOUT SABBATH PREPARATIONS
A Jewish mother took her daughter on he weekly Shabbat (Sabbath) shopping run and stopped at the butcher shop. He picked out a very nice cut of meat making sure that it was lean and tender. They continue to finish all their shopping and went home to start the preparations and cooking. The daughter is intently listening to every word. The mother then take the cut of meat, cuts off the end, and tosses it into the garbage. The daughter turns to he mother and asks why she cut off the end piece. The mother says that she does not know. That is the way my mother taught me and I have done it ever since. So after services at the synagogue the mother and daughter go the visit grandma and the daughter asks “why did you teach mama to cut off the end piece of the meat and throw it in the garbage?” The grandma says that she does not know but that is what my mother taught me. So the following week they planned their routine visit at the “home” to visit great grandma. And again the daughter turns to great grandma and asks her why she taught grandma to cut off the end piece of the meat and throw it in the garbage. And great grandma responds “Because my pot was too small!.”
And this was how another tradition was born and no one until now ever asked why.
