WHEN I WAS PRINCIPAL SYSTEMS MANAGER AT US POSTAL SERVICE IT GAVE THE FAMILY A TOUR

It was around 1993 and I was working as Principal Systems Manager at the US Postal Service.  The kids were quite young and I made arrangements to bring them to work and show them all the postal processing machinery.  After the tour I took them to the lab where I did all my development work.  At the entrance to the lab there was a magnetic card reader to prevent unauthorized people from entering.  And I had a magnetic card in my wallet but I also had far too many credit cards which made it very difficult to get my wallet out of my back pocket.  But fortunately the reader was at just the right height so I approached the reader, turned my back towards it, and put my butt up against the reader.  The green light lit up and the door opened.  Yossi, my oldest son, turned to me and asked how that worked.  I told him that when one works at the Postal Service they have to fill out a lot forms, have a photo taken for their ID badge, and then they take you to a high tech bio-medical scanner and take your butt print.  And everyone who works at the Postal Service has to have their butt print on file.  I then picked up each of my kids and put their butts up against the reader and the green light never came on.  Then I put my butt up against the reader and the green light lit up each and every time.  Then I explained to the kids that there are a lot of people in the Postal Service whose butt prints take a lot of terabytes to store.
