BACKGROUND

 Intel may have been a technology leader and powerhouse in the past but today their very existence is in jeopardy.  We go will into history, ethics, illegal practices, security, and so forth later.  But for those who want the high level overview we will begin from a bird’s eye view.

CURRENT TECHNOLOGY SITUATION
 Some 50 or so years ago IBM hired Intel to build a new revolutionary Personal Computer (PC – not not Politically Correct).   It started with an 8088/8086 processor which established the architecture. But IBM would not risk everything on this without having a second source processor.  So they mandated AMD be the second source.  It did not take long for Intel to reneg on all promises and commitments and an adversarial relationship began and lasts to this day. Over the years there were a log of clones but slowly but surely they all were eliminated.  
At any given time AMD and Intel swapped as to who was technologically ahead.  It must be remembered that AMD pioneered the first dual core process, the first processor to reach 5 GHz, and many more innovations along the way. But almost a decade ago AMD had some serious issues with an AMD processor codenamed “BULLDOZER” which cause them to nearly go bankrupt.  The company had two choices:  1) go bankrupt or 2) rebuild the architecture from scratch.  They chose the latter and brought in Lisa Su who soon became the new CEO and guiding light.  She put together a world class team that came up with new revolutionary idea which would totally transform the industry.  
We will dive deeper into the technology later but jump forward to address the current situation which is absolutely horrible and existential for Intel.
THE REVOLUTIONARY NEW AMD ARCHITECTURE
Intel processor were generally very large, monolithic chips, and as such had low yields.  The yields were arount 40% and 60% went into the dumpster.  So Intel charged 60+% high margin markups to cover the innefficient production yields.  AMD’s new idea was instead of producing large monster chips that they would produce tiny 4 core at first, later 8 core, and soon 12 core chiplets.  Because every wafer has some defects and the yield go down as the chip size goes up this idea was brilliant.  AMD started getting 95% yields and had a “lego style” mix and match expandible capbility that totally obliterated Intel.  AMD also added INFINITY FABRIC which was the high speed data highway connecting the core complexes and everything together seamlessly.  
PROCESS SHRINK DRIVER
Process Shrink is the continuous effort of making the transistors smaller and smaller.  Back then much of the best processors were 28nm (Nano meters or billionths of a meter) or 22nm.  And Intel was the first company to achieve 14nm and had a monopoly on 14nm technology.  And they made customers pay dearly by overcharging because of their monopoly.  But after a while TSMC, Samsung, and Global Foundries caught up to Intel and there was a level playing field.  Then Intel began trying to achieve 10nm and initially failed miserably.  Meanwhile Taiwan Semi Conductor and Samsung achieved 7nm and progressed to 5nm and now 3nm.  
INTEL TECHNOLOGY WAS 3 OR MORE GENERATIONS BEHIND
It should be noted that the tighter you shrink the process the more computing power you get in a smaller space, the less distance that the electricity must travel, and the greater the efficiency is.  At this point Intel’s technology is totally broken and far behind.  The only way they could compete at all with AMD was to keep on adding more and more powerlines to their sockets and overvolt their cpu’s running them at horrendous power consumption and today there are huge numbers of processor failures due to overvolting and the processors failing at the same time that Intel is evading responsibility where ever possible and not covering their customer’s losses.  All of these factors together have resulted in massive market share losses for Intel and in the last earnings report they reported that they are laying off 20,000 workers world wide and cancelling their stock dividends.  Add to this their security problems which has led to numerous malware breaches along with Gelsinger and Intel’s inability to keep their technology promises as they fall further and further behind AMD.
 
OPEN SOURCE, COLLABORATION, PARTNERSHIPS VS. HOSTILE AND ILLEGAL BUSINESS PRACTICES
In general AMD is an industry standard leader promoting Open Source and Standards, building collaborative partnerships, and driving the industry forward.
Intel is proprietary, hostile, and a poisonous workplace.  But one of the most telling facts is that Intel lags far behind AMD in multi-core architectures, eco system, performance, efficiency, security, etc.  So if we start from the very top of the computer technology ladder 

 
ALL SUPERCOMPUTERS TODAY ARE BUILT ON AMD EPYC PROCESSORS. 
 This includes Frontier, El Capitan, etc.  Intel only won one bid and that was for Aurora at Argonne Labs some 5 years and Intel has not been able to deliver the promised system because Intel’s technology is broken and does not meet the required specs.  From Supercomputers the trend is flowing down into the data centers and cloud services.  And from their to PC’s, laptops, and game consoles.

SABOTAGING AMD COMPILER CODE TO IMPROVE INTEL PERCEPTION IN BENCHMARKS AND USER PERCEPTION

In this illegal ploy Intel paid a compiler company to sabotage AMD generated program code.  A compiler is a software program which takes a company’s or programmers software which translates the software into a runnable program.  Here the compiler runtime code asks the computer’s process whether it is Intel or AMD and what model cpu it is.  Each manufacturer produces many lines of processor chips and some processors have extra instruction functionality build for specific computational tasks.  It this instance the compiler company was paid not to allow their runtime software to use the advanced computational features to optimize the processors’ performance essentially “crippling it” without leaving physical traces of their damage.  This was proven and is another illegal Intel business practice.

THIS TIME THEY USED APPLE TO STEAL QUALCOMM PROPRIETARY INFORMATION

Intel with its iPhone was a major customer for Apple in 3G and 4G phones.  But they devised a new scheme to steal Qualcomm proprietary technology.  Qualcomm was the industry leader in mobile phone modems and was the driving designer of modem standards.  So Apple came up with a bogus excuse that their engineers required internal design information about the Qualcomm modems to do their iPhone design work.  Qualcomm was cornered and never imagined that Apple and Intel would want to do something so illegal.  So Qualcomm handed over the requested information.  Apple immediately turned the proprietary documents over to Intel so they could reverse engineer the modems and sell their reverse engineered modems to Apple for less than Qualcomm charged.  This worked for 3G and 4G modems but when Qualcomm designed the 5G modems and Intel did not have access to Qualcomm’s new proprietary designs Intel was not able to reverse engineer the 5G modem.  So Apple had no choice but to ask to buy Qualcomm 5G models and Qualcomm said “NO” and sued Apple for $7B.  In the end Apple had no choice but to fork over $7B in damages to Qualcomm and get their 5G models.  That same day Intel shuttered their mobile modem division.

The story continues ad nauseum with high tech poaching, stealing of patents, destroying competitors, and so forth.  I have to stop somewhere and some time.  So I will stop here and come back to the subject later with more information on Security such as INTEL MANAGEMENT ENGINE to help NSA and hackers break into your computer.  All of the sidechannel and other security flaws of Intel processors.
Also the Intel attempt to fool people at Computex when they hid a freezer under the table and hooked it up directly to an Intel 28 core processor running ful 5GHz on all cores until a sharp engineer saw the piping coming up from under the table.
Google Intel fraud and you will not believe how entrenches Intel is in illegal activities.

A COUPLE FINAL WORDS BEFORE CALLING IT A DAY – DAY OF JUSTICE IS RAPIDLY APPROACHING

1.  Intel is now in a very very bad position with decreasing revenues, share price, performance, efficiency, value, and competitive production capacity as they severely trail TSMC.  So Intel is both threatening TSMC that Intel will take the lead and business from TSMC and at the same time begging TSMC to sell them some production capacity so they can produce some chips that can actually compete with AMD.  TSMC is not stupid enough to fall for this ruse.  Also TSMC under the threat of China invading Taiwan based on the Russia invasion of Ukraine has TSMC now building production plants in the USA positioning it to enjoy USA benefits as a USA sponsored company.  And hopefully TSMC will ultimately move more and more production to USA taking away business and government sponsored programs from Intel.  In closing this subject Intel is on the verge of going under with the decreasing revenues, lag in technology including AI, and all the other problems.  I do not believe Intel will be able to survive and will ultimately fall to AMD, Nvidia, and TSMC in conjunction with massive industry alliances.  We shall see.

2.  BIDEN is still too stupid to understand any technology and falls for Intel lies giving Intel billions of dollars as Intel cheats the govt with the CHIPS act building empty warehouses since they DO NOT have competitive working technology that can compete with TSMC and AMD.  It is time that the Democrats finally got some competent people in technology, foreign affairs, etc., and stop screwing up everything they touch.  The November elections are fast approaching but unfortunately we do not have a candidate which is competent, honor, capable, or anything else.  We have a criminal who stacks the Supreme Court and deprives women of all rights, lies about everything, and is largely both incompetent and dangerous enough that no one will risk opposing him.  On the other hand we have totally incompetent people on the other side of the aisle who have supported Iran’s Obama nuclear enrichment program with funding and the nuclear deal allowing Iran to legally achieve nuclear weapons.  Their removing sanctions on Iran on the first day Biden entered office along with Obama’s doing nothing when Russian invaded Ukraine and Crimea has created the Russian Ukraine crisis today.  And now we are facing 4 more horrible years with no competent leadership anywhere to be found.,
